Puppy Dog Eyes
By, Kaushik Paul
Puppy dog eyes gaze
Through the closed window pane,
Towards a kid in tattered gown,
Playing down the lane.
Out in the sunshine,
Bright daffodils bloom.
Puppy dog eyes look around,
Only to find a deep dark gloom.
Puppy dog eyes are trapped
In a prison of curriculums and books.
While birds fly in open sky,
And paper boats float down the brook.
Trees are rocked by the storm,
And leaves get drenched in the rain.
Puppy dog eyes hide themselves,
Behind the Grade Card, in pain.
Puppy dog eyes study hard,
As they have to go a long way.
While every child takes a leave
And enjoys Children’s Day.
In the park, children swing,
Have fun and yell loud with cheer.
Puppy dog eyes never blink,
Somewhere in them has long dried a tear.
